Flaxton sculptor Ted Moran is about to install a two-metre stainless steel artwork at Imbil Art on Yabba fine art gallery.
The abstract sculpture features geometric shapes and is actually for sale on commission, but it will take centre stage in the gallery’s garden until a new home can be found.
Ted is one of the growing number of fans of Art on Yabba since it opened in February and is keen to support the gallery.
He started working life as a fitter and turner in a small factory in Victoria but has been a successful sculptor for more than 60 years.
“Early on in my working life, my foreman suggested that I visit a Toorak gallery where they displayed junk metal art,” Ted said.
“I can remember it like yesterday! One of the items had a red sold sticker on it and I knew I could do that sort of thing, so it started as a side hustle.
“It was the hobby that grew and grew.”
He said his biggest and best work is a glass and metal feature wall in a church at Mornington Peninsula.
